I continued reading in Genesis (chapters 36-47). There are several takeaways in this part of the story of Joseph and his brothers [the 12 tribes of Israel], but the two that came to my mind first regarded favoritism and “but God.”
Takeaway #1: As parents, it doesn’t matter how different their personalities are, how much they remind you of their father (be it for the good, the bad, or how you may feel/have felt about him–or vice versa as it relates to their mother), or any other reasoning that comes to mind…it IS NOT okay to show favoritism of any kind among/between your children. Those are some very bad seeds you’ll be planting! And, the harvest will cripple their relationships with each other, as well as with you. Even if they mend them later, they would have been robbed of an entire childhood and young adulthood of bonding, and priceless experiences and memory-making-moments together.
Takeaway #2: The devil will mean it for evil and your detriment, BUT GOD will take that same mess the devil creates in your life and work it out for your good and His glory!

We should not try to justify ourselves, but let us justify God.
