1) You can clearly see, that God is a caring father.
2) God wants us to treat others with respect, and be obedient to his word.
3) Laws were put in place for the children of Israel to obey.
On Mount Sinai, God reminded the Israelites of His powerful acts of deliverance, and gives the laws on how they should conduct themselves. God wanted them to be a separate people, so that everyone around them would know they worshiped a mighty God. Just like the Israelites, we as Christians have been delivered from sin, through our Savior, Jesus Christ, and this deliverance has set us apart. We have been called His Holy people.

I continued my study via Leviticus 20. Two things stood out to me:
1. Molech.
2. Sexual desire is the root of SO MANY immoral acts.
As it relates to the latter, my takeaway is: Don’t underestimate the power of sexual desire. Verses 10-21 are devoted solely to how far left man can be derailed when sexual desire overtakes them. It will cause a man to sleep with another man’s wife, a son to sleep with his mother or even his stepmother, a father to sleep with his son’s wife, a man to sleep with another man, a married man to sleep with his mother in-law, a man to have sex with an animal, a woman to have sex with an animal, a man to sleep with his sister or even his half sister, a man to sleep with a woman during her menstrual cycle, a man to sleep with his aunt, and a man to sleep with his sister in-law. Sexual desire is such a powerful motivator that it has been sprinkled on everything (like salt) to entice us to watch, listen, and purchase. It’s in commercials, daytime TV, movies, cartoons, music, plastered on billboards, printed on t-shirts and hats, you can call in to hear it, login to see it, download apps for it, text it, and even make a multi-million dollar business out of it (condom stores, adult video stores, mail order/online sex dolls and toys outlets, bedroom candy distribution sales, escort services, legalized prostitution, and the fastest growing today: sex trafficking). “Sex sells” is an understatement! It’s the root of immoral tendencies–adultery, incest, molestation, rape, homosexuality, sodomy, bestiality, etc.–that strike at the heart of the family unit and endanger its very existence. It’s no wonder, then, why God keeps beckoning His children over and over to remember who they are and whose they are, to live holy as He is holy, and to stay separated from the lifestyles of “other” people.
As it relates to Molech, this was the second time for me to see this–the first time being back in Leviticus 18. Molech was “mentioned” then, but was being expanded through several verses on now; so I did some deeper studying and found Molech to be a Canaanite god associated with their practice of sacrificing children. The Canaanites freely engaged in profanation, homosexuality, bestiality, and sacrificing children as their offering to Molech. God was warning His people, again (Leviticus 20:2-8), to remain holy in their worship. There would be an immediate death penalty for those that fell into Molech worship. My takeaway here was simply a reminder of the first of the Ten Commandments: Thou shalt have no other gods before me.
