1) God harden Pharaohs heart so that he could make an example out of him.
2) God showed that he had power over all creatures, land, sea, the sun, darkness, and mankind.
3) The Lord supplied Israel with all of their needs, in an abundance before the left Egypt.
4) The Lord will provide.
I continued my study with Leviticus 12-15. These passages went more into what is considered unclean–the things/situations that would defile a person and make them unable to participate in divine worship. It started with unclean animals and creatures not to be consumed as food in Chpt 11 (including camels, badgers, hares, pigs [bye-bye bacon, ham, pork ribs, pork loin, ham hocks, hog maws, pig’s feet, pork belly, pork butt, chitterlings, pork skins, and pork chops], any creature that lives in water that does not have fins or scales, eagles, vultures, buzzards, falcons, ravens, owls, hawks, cuckows, cormorants, swans, pelicans, storks, herons, lapwings, bats, weasels, mice, tortoises, ferrets, chameleons, lizards, snails [bye-bye escargot], and moles). Partaking of these would make a person unclean…separate from God. And, even though the command is to be fruitful and multiply (for the continuation of His children upon the earth), per Chpts. 12 & 15 the menstrual cycle of women before and after child birth made them unclean, forbidden to touch certain things, and unable to enter the sanctuary. There had to be an offering of purification before she could be socially and spiritually acceptable again. Lastly, in Chpts. 13 & 14 a serious disease of the skin would make a person unclean–from the diagnosis to the healing (if applicable). These people were socially shunned–discarded to live alone (away from family and friends) outside the community walls, and spiritually cutoff from worship and fellowship. This pandemic has us without “normal” fellowship, true, but it doesn’t have us estranged from society as a whole. I can’t even imagine the state of mental health that would exist being socially distant from EVERYBODY. They didn’t have phones, Skype, Face Time, Hangouts, and all the other real-time apps and communication vehicles of the technologically advanced society we live in today. Their “socially distant” meant being literally CUT OFF–no contact of any kind with their spouse, children, parents, siblings, grandparents, uncles, aunties, cousins, friends, associates, no one–just you, left to live alone until you either die or somehow recover.
My takeaway: We literally have no idea how blessed we are! For our particular spirits to have the opportunity to be born in and live in the generations of industrialization and technology, versus being born and living in “Bible” days, is a highly favorable blessing. “Thank you God!” for the unrecognized blessings that we only tend to realize in hindsight while studying the scriptures.
